This week I focused primarily on the walk cycle for my beetle, I also finished up a matte painting and I have started working on a smoke sim for the deforestation scene. I haven't been diligently working on my paper recently so I am considering adjusting some of my production schedule to add in some writing time before midterm week hits. As for the book, I am going to finish making a mock up of the box so that Elliot and I can meet either Thursday or Friday to test the projector in the box with different papers.
Desert Matte Painting
This is the finished matte painting of the desert that I had started last week. Upon receiving critique, I added more atmospheric perspective to try and emphasize the dryness and heat of the desert. I also added some paint splatters to help tie into the style of the trees in the following shot.
Beetle Walk Cycle
I wanted to create a looping walk cycle that I can use for the duration of the approximately two and half minute film. It is about 10 seconds, which should provide enough variety to keep it from seeming too cyclical. I also added a bit of a fall or hiccup in the middle of the walk sequence to break up the walk and to hint at or draw attention to the cyclical nature of not only his walk but the film itself. There are still some places, specifically during the adjustment/fall, that need to be smoothed out a little more. I might leave it for now and address it later on in the quarter when other elements of the film are finished and in a rendering state.
Smoke Sim | Deforestation Scene
I have only worked on this a smidge, so I don't have a lot of progress to show for this sim for this week. My production schedule has me finishing this sim by Friday, and I am confident that I can do that. I have found a workflow that I will be using to give my smoke a cartoon-like print look in the final render.
