TREATMENT & CONCPET
For my final project I plan on utilizing 4 different effects/techniques that we learned in class to create a short film that toys with the idea of time travel. At the opening of the film, I would like to do a series of quick close ups to set the scene and the story quickly and early on. I am opening with a car speeding up a driveway, and cutting quickly to the inside of the car. A close up of the gearshift is the next shot, and it shifts into park; then another quick close up of the ignition key turning the car off. The next shot is another close up of a deadbolt turning, followed by a quick cut to a close up of keys being dropped on the counter. From here I would quickly cut to a pot being filled with water, and then set on the stove. Cut to a table, and a paper is slammed down, there is a letter grade of a C- sprawled across the top. This would then be followed an extreme close up of eyes, matching a dissolve from the iris to the boiling pot of water to build the anger and tension.
I would then cut to a wide shot of the subject sitting on a sofa, clearly in despair, they would then turn on the television where news reports would sound that authorities are looking for a woman who is on the run and claims she is from the future. All of a sudden we cut to the door, where we here a knock, our subject slowly gets up to approach the door, draws back the curtain only to reveal themselves. Here is where I plan on using the split screen to duplicate my subject. Taken aback, the subject would make a phone call to explain to a confidant and ask for help. The person on the phone asks if the doppelganger is still there. The subject approaches the door slowly, draws back the curtain, and the doppelganger knocks on the window and asks to be let in. I plan on using split screen here again to duplicate the subject. The doppelganger quickly explains that they are from the future to fix what happened today, because it changed the course of history forever; getting that C- sent the subject down the wrong path and it needed to be corrected.
The subject and the doppelgänger spend time thinking of ideas for the project that failed, and I plan on having a time-lapse here to show the passing of time. Finally they come up with an idea, and the grade on the paper fades from a C- to an A. The doppelgänger then disappears since everything has been corrected. When the main subject thinks everything is said and done a pocket watch appears on the table, with a note that reads “Just incase you have to go back”.
