The biggest goal for this week is working on the procedural flower bloom/blossom for the desert scene. I am still working on it, and according to the production schedule it needs to be finished by the end of the weekend. I had a personal matter that prevented me from working as much this weekend, which is unfortunate because this coming weekend I have a planned event that will also prevent me from working diligently. Hopefully I can push through the rest of this week and be able to stay on track with my production schedule.
City Matte Painting
For some reason I am struggling a lot with this matte and getting it to be stylistically where I want it. I think I am close, so it is what I tend to when I need a break from my 3D work, as long this matte is finished by next week I will be fine. I just need it to know how the smoke sim will interact with it for the destruction of the city (but that is still about 2 weeks out on the schedule).
Smoke & Matte Comp Test
Test showing both the 3D simulated smoke and 2D matte painting working in tandem together. Looking pretty all right if I do say so myself.
Flower Blossom
I found this piece (https://vimeo.com/321053835) and knew that this was close to what I wanted to achieve. I met with Professor Stallworth to discuss a course of action for how to get a flower to bloom. I was using code and expressions, but I was breaking everything and never got a successful result. Professor Stallworth suggested using blend shapes instead of code, so I am currently modeling the different 'poses' or 'phases' of the flower's bloom.
Book Update
So I ran into a bit of a snag with my projector. Elliot and I met to test papers on the projector, but we found that the closest we can focus the projector to the screen is about 3 feet, with an image that is around 2 feet wide. I have been trying to find a projector with a small screen and a short throw, but I still haven't had any luck.
